Natural Gas

The discovery of Egypt’s massive Zohr natural gas field by the Italian energy major Eni (The largest eastern Mediterranean gas find to date with 850 billion cubic meters of gas in place mean Egypt could become energy self sufficient.

Hydrogen

Egypt is pursuing feasibility studies on blue hydrogen projects. Often touted as an economically viable option, blue hydrogen is created using high heat and steam to break down natural gas into hydrogen. The carbon dioxide produced in the process is captured and permanently stored or utilized.

Carbon capture

The Egyptian government and Italian multinational oil and gas company, Eni, have embarked on developing a $25 million, multi-phased carbon capture and storage project that aims to dramatically reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Based in the Meleiha field in the northern part of the country.

Low carbon ammonia

Egypt is the world’s seventh largest ammonia producer, just behind Saudi Arabia which is the largest producer in the MENA region. Studies are being undertaken to evaluate the available opportunities for establishing blue ammonia projects in Egypt as one of the solutions to provide low carbon energy.
